Doug Dulgarian Launches New Label: Julia’s War Recordings

Julia’s War jumped out of a dream and onto the internet fast. Philadelphia’s Doug Dulgarian (they are gutting a body of water) dreamed of a duck (a duck shaped rock) the night before he met its earthly twin, and both birds warned that if he didn’t start a label imminent death awaited in six days. “so I figured ‘what the hell I’ve always wanted the opportunity to do something like that and just put shit out that I really love,’” Dulgarian remembers.

Determined to live, he named the label with a favorite name, which sounds like the month when his father was born. Doug built a beautiful home for Julia’s War with html, polaroids, grim reapers and dancing armies of Pokémon. juliaswar.com, he says, pays a visible tribute to the colorful mysteries of our web, like arngren.net, angels-heaven.org, yyyyyyy.info, r/A858, which inspired him last year as the need for alternate realities grew more pressing. And more, a strong visual identity matters to the label because “when I think of growing up and falling in love with music it was always the whole ass CD and packaging, the booklets I hung on my walls like long rectangle posters, the music videos, or the websites.”

Julia’s War began last Wednesday with a stream by 4 artists in their family – Melaina Kol, acid_freek, club soda, and MJ Lenderman & Wednesday, all sounding eager and full of love. Collage rock, sweet country melodies and deep techno are all welcome. Cassette pre-orders begin this week for club soda, and already began for MJ & Wednesday’s fuzzed-out splendorous Guttering, which I highly recommend you hear before summer descends. New material from Julia’s War comes soon.
